JORGE CONDE (Barcelona, 1968)
Licenciado en Bellas Artes por la Universitat de Barcelona, se formó en Música y Artes Visuales en la University of California, San Diego (USA) y en Cine en la National Film and Television School de Londres (UK).
Fue artista residente en la Real Academia de España en Roma (RAER), el Museo Siqueiros de México y el Chelsea College of Arts and Design de Londres.

Su trabajo ha sido expuesto en el Museo d’Arte Contemporanea di Roma (MACRO), la Real Academia de España y el Festival IPER en Roma, el Instituto Cervantes de Berlín, Tabacalera Promoción del Arte, el CEART, la Real Academia de Bellas Artes de San Fernando y la galería Ponce-Robles en Madrid, Arts Santa Mònica y el Centro Cultural Círculo de Lectores en Barcelona, el IVAM, el Centre del Carme Cultura Contemporània (CCCC) y el Museo de Bellas Artes en Valencia, el IAACC Pablo Serrano de Zaragoza, el CAC-Casal Solleric de Palma, el Tinglado 2, MÈDOL Centre d'Arts Contemporànies y el Museu d’Art Modern de Tarragona, el Musée de l’Elysée y la Fabienne Levy Gallery de Lausanne (Suiza), y el Mandeville Center for the Arts en San Diego (USA).

La práctica artística de Jorge Conde se desarrolla en el campo de la cultura visual híbrida, la transcodificación y la fotografía expandida, y destaca por sus instalaciones y dispositivos sensoriales multimedia.
“La vida bajo presión y la memoria en resistencia son temas omnipresentes en mi trabajo”, afirma. “Creo que tanto la arquitectura como el paisaje son espacios conceptuales, vivenciales y dinámicos construidos, física y culturalmente, por la acumulación de estratos en el tiempo. Por ello nos ofrecen oportunidades para alcanzar una mejor compresión de la historia y los engranajes profundos que gobiernan la sociedad”.
Desde la investigación interdisciplinar con base ética, y consciente del valor inestable de la documentación fotográfica, su obra reflexiona sobre el impacto social, urbanístico y medioambiental de las transformaciones que experimentan las ciudades contemporáneas y sus periferias.
Igualmente, aborda los excesos de la sociedad de hiperconsumo y su modelo productivo "algorítmico", tan devastador, evidenciando sus contradicciones internas así como su rol clave en la política y sus relatos, las dinámicas sociales, la construcción del paisaje, la emergencia climática, el deterioro del medioambiente y las tensiones entre historia y memoria.

Visual artist, photographer and researcher based in Barcelona (Spain).
Holder of a Bachelor’s Degree in Fine Arts from the University of Barcelona, he studied Visual Arts and Experimental Music at the University of California, San Diego (USA), and Filmmaking at the National Film and Television School in London (UK). He was awarded international exchange and residency programs highlighting the Chelsea College of Arts and Design in London, the Siqueiros Museum in Cuernavaca (Mexico), and the Royal Academy of Spain in Rome with the MAEC-AECID Photography and Visual Arts Prize.
Jorge Conde is best known for his sensory, site-specific installations, and hybrid, multi-layered images expanding the limits of photography and visual culture. In his exhibitions, he engages original photographs, digitally-generated materials, historical and archival images, along with video projections, interviews and found objects, which he brings together in thought-provoking installations that combine various media, including photography, video, collage/photomontage, sound, drawing, and text.
His projects deal with the excesses of contemporary hyper-consumption society and its algorithmic, socially-unequal production model, focusing on its contradictions and the relations of power that help support it. Over the years his artistic practice has taken a more conceptual turn, placing itself in positions of greater ethical, social and ecological commitment, and thus showing a deep concern for the climate emergency, the energy transition, the evolution of the landscape and contemporary cities, as well as the tensions between history and memory.
His artistic practice has been recognized with numerous institutional grants and supported by the Spanish Ministry of Culture, the Musée de l’Elysée in Lausanne (Switzerland), the Catalan Regional Government, the Spanish Agency for International Development and Cooperation (AECID), the National Council for Culture and the Arts (CoNCA), VEGAP, the Bertelsmann-Planeta Foundation, The Bancaja-Bankia Foundation, Mexico’s National Institute of Fine Arts (INBA-FONCA), Morelos Autonomous Universtity (UAEM) in Cuernavaca (Mexico), and the Museum of Contemporary Art in Rome (Italy), among others.
Starting in the late 1990s, he has held numerous solo and group exhibitions in different countries (USA, France, Germany, Great Britain, Spain, Italy, Mexico, Puerto Rico, Portugal, Switzerland, etc.), in public and private institutions including the Museum of Contemporary Art (MACRO) in Rome; the Royal Academy of Spain and the IPER Festival in Rome (Italy); the Cervantes Institute in Berlin (Germany); the Siqueiros Museum in Cuernavaca (Mexico); the Mandeville Center for the Arts in San Diego, CA (USA); the Fabienne Levy Gallery in Geneva and Lausanne (Switzerland); Tabacalera Art Centre, the Ponce-Robles Gallery and the San Fernando Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Madrid (Spain); the IVAM, the “Centre del Carme” for Contemporary Art & Culture and the Museum of Fine Arts in Valencia (Spain); Arts Santa Mònica, La Virreina Centre de la Imatge, and the Bertelsmann-Planeta Foundation in Barcelona (Spain); the Museum of Modern Art and MÈDOL Center for Contemporary Arts in Tarragona (Spain), among many others.

La pràctica artística de Jorge Conde es desenvolupa en el camp de la cultura visual híbrida, la transcodificació i la fotografia expandida, i destaca per les seves instal·lacions i dispositius sensorials multimèdia.
"La vida sota pressió i la memòria en resistència són temes omnipresents en el meu treball", afirma. "Crec que tant l'arquitectura com el paisatge són espais conceptuals, vivencials i dinàmics construïts, físicament i culturalment, per acumulació d'estrats en el temps, i per això ens ofereixen oportunitats per assolir una millor comprensió de la història i dels engranatges profunds que governen la societat".
Des de la recerca interdisciplinar amb base ètica, i molt conscient del valor inestable de la documentació fotogràfica, la seva obra reflexiona sobre l'impacte social, urbanístic i mediambiental de les transformacions que experimenten les ciutats contemporànies i les seves perifèries.
Igualment, aborda els excessos de la societat d'hiperconsum i el seu model productiu "algorítmic", tan devastador, evidenciant les seves contradiccions internes i la seva influència en la percepció, així com el seu paper clau en la política i els seus relats, la construcció del paisatge, l'emergència climàtica, la transició energètica i les tensions entre història i memòria.
