La serie "A World Full of Freaks"

Serie compuesta por fotografías híbridas intervenidas con materiales pictóricos. Aborda irónicamente algunos excesos, obsesiones y hobbies inherentes a las sociedades de consumo contemporáneas (la especulación, el afán de control, el riesgo calculado, la obsolescencia programada, la corrección política, etc.). En términos generales, constituyen mecanismos de evasión y/o adaptación al medio social, fruto de la elevada presión a la que está sometido el individuo por parte de los medios de comunicación, los grupos de referencia y la competencia socio-profesional.

 

Las fotografías intervenidas fueron tomadas a orillas del Támesis, en las inmediaciones del Millenium Bridge de Londres, en noviembre de 2009. En la citada sesión fotográfica se tomaron decenas de fotos de transeúntes y de elementos arquitectónicos. Posteriormente, se seleccionaron, se fragmentaron y se compuso con las imágenes. La hibridación de técnicas pictóricas (orgánicas) y fotográficas (digitales) sirve para explotar el tema desde una óptica especulativa que aspira a exprimir su potencial al máximo sin perder un ápice de ambición especulativa y carga conceptual.

"A World Full of Freaks" series

This series of paintings and manually-altered hybrid photographs ironically reflect on some common obsessions widely spread in contemporary Western societies and the excesses of today’s quest for instant satisfaction. Generally speaking, they are defence mechanisms –often times extremely sophisticated- used by individuals to adapt to what they are told they should become by the media, or to get some relief from competition and peer pressure.

These manually-altered photos were taken in the south bank of London’s Thames river, close to the Millenium Bridge, in November of 2009. Hundreds of photos were taken during the said session, images of people passing by along with architectural elements and the urban setting. Later on, the images were selected, fragmented, and used in order to compose the final works. Hybridization of pictorial and photographic techniques helped the artist to explore the series’ main theme from a more conceptual, speculative perspective.
